Just Two Dudes Making Plugins

No corporate headquarters. No investor board meetings. Just Aaron and David—two producers who spent decades in studios and finally decided to build the tools we always wished existed.

How This Started

After 50+ combined years of making music, mixing records, and mastering tracks, we kept running into the same frustrations. Plugins that were close to what we needed—but not quite. Workarounds that became second nature. Features we wished existed but never showed up in updates.

So we stopped waiting. Aaron dove deep into C++ and DSP programming. David kept pushing on the business and creative vision. And somewhere along the way, we realized we weren't just building tools for ourselves—we were building them for everyone who's ever felt the same frustrations we did.

The first plugin surprised us. We set out to build an EQ and ended up with something that does things no other EQ does. That's when we knew we were onto something.

Why "Orra"?

"Orra" is a Scottish word meaning "odd, occasional, miscellaneous"—things that don't fit neatly into established categories.

That's exactly how we approach plugin design. We're not interested in building another version of what already exists. We ask "what hasn't been done?" and let the exploration take us somewhere unexpected. The best solutions often hide in the overlooked spaces—the orra places.

Aaron

Aaron

Co-Founder & Lead Developer

Producer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer—and one half of the electronic duo Bronze Whale. After years of wishing plugins worked differently, I taught myself C++ and DSP programming to make them myself.

I build every Orra plugin with the same question: "What would I actually want to use in a session?" If it doesn't make my own workflow better, it doesn't ship.

David Schocke

David Schocke

Co-Founder

Producer with decades in the studio, now focused on the business side of Orra. I keep us pointed in the right direction, handle the stuff that isn't code, and make sure we're building something that actually helps people.

I believe the best companies are built with their communities, not just for them. Your feedback genuinely shapes what we build next.

How We Build

Discovery Over Iteration

We don't start with "how can we make a better version of X?" We start with "what problem hasn't been solved well?" The exploration is the point—and it leads to genuinely different results.

We Use What We Build

Every Orra plugin gets used in real sessions before it ships. If it doesn't make our own work better, we keep iterating until it does. We're not building for spec sheets—we're building for actual use.

Community-Driven

Your feedback isn't a suggestion box we check occasionally—it directly shapes our roadmap. Join our Discord, tell us what's working and what isn't. We're building this together.

What's Next

Orra EQ is just the beginning. We've got Orra Compressor and Orra Ducker in active development—each one taking on its own unexpected life through our discovery process. Down the road, we're dreaming about Orra Player for unique sample instruments and Orra Reverb with field-recorded spaces from around the world.

But honestly? The roadmap changes based on what we learn. What problems you're facing. What ideas emerge from late-night sessions. That's the beauty of being two dudes with no corporate overlords—we can follow the interesting threads wherever they lead.
